Seamstress Pride

I should mosey on down to the docks area of Ankh-Morpork and sign up to the Seamstress Guild because I am developing into a talented seamstress extraordinaire. (Mum, don't Google that).
My amazing Mother gave me a sewing machine as a Christmas and birthday present last year (I think) and after producing two slightly-wearable dresses, a couple of costumes and pretty bows, I have finally produced a dress that I can wear without gaping arm holes or wonky necklines.

Well, ok, the neckline is a slight fail but still wearable  and look at that amazing black velvet peter-pan collar I constructed. Plus, I look like a total babe in this dress, which has been confirmed by at least three other equally hot sources. I wore the teal and black velvet dress yesterday on a lunch date, followed by coffee with a friend and then dinner with Lovely. I promised my Mum I'd get a picture of it but forgot, so took this photo this morning (hence the dishevelled hair and face). Yes, this post is just about the dress, suck it.

That's all,

Worst Friend Ever

So, it appears I've dumped Facebook and picked up another medium by which I can forget to communicate with my family and friends. Yay! I've been without Facebook for about a month now, and despite initial withdrawal pangs and the occasional "you don't have Facebook so we forgot to tell you" mishap, the experience has been good. I told myself I'd give it a month and then decide if I could cope in the world. Turns out that I can, so I'm going to be FB-less for the foreseeable future.
I haven't been doing anything particularly exciting the last couple weeks, other than drinking too much and spending too much money. It's been two weeks since my last exam, and the intervening time has been spent just... hanging out. And now I'm bored; so, so bored. Today was spent baking cupcakes with a friend and watching movies with Jesse.
Peace out,
SJ

I'm Free!

I've just finished my last exam for the year, and I am free for a full three months. I'm so excited, I can finally get around to seeing my friends, who I have sorely neglected for most of the year. Hopefully I'll be able to visit a few of them that live outside of Melbourne. See you guys soon!
Now, I know I promised to update this blog regularly when I deleted Facebook. However, I'm awful at doing things and well, writing a blog post seems like a rather narcissistic activity. So, here's a quick run-down of what I've been up to for the last few weeks:

I joined a synchronised swimming team based around the principles of the Fat Acceptance movement called Aquaporko. The idea is that a bunch of fatties get together once a week, train and eventually choreograph a couple of routines and put on a performance at the end of the season (around March next year). I am super excited about Aquaporko, it's awesome to hang out with other fatties in swimsuits and engage in an activity that goes against all of the culturally constructed ideas our society has about fat people. Synchronised swimming requires grace, beauty, strength, discipline and physical activity; all attributes that fat people are often denied. Plus, we get to wear sweet swimming caps with flowers on them. So far I've only been to two training sessions, but I've already learnt forwards and backwards tumbles. I, quite literally, have never been able to do tumbles (in or out of the water), so I'm pretty chuffed about it.

I went to a Halloween party dressed as Miss Piggy, embracing my inner fat diva. Can you see a pattern here? I made the ears and snout myself with pink felt, a sewing machine, rhinestones and a hot glue gun. I also made the apron my friend Alice of Wonderland is wearing. Some of you may recognise the dress and tiara, most of you will recognise my lack of photo editing software.

I'm still jobless; still making (pathetic) attempts to grow vegetables and flowers; still starting new craft projects without finishing the last. I've started dating someone, they're pretty cool and have a grown-up house. I'm hosting a party tomorrow to mark the end of exams, eat a friend's Norwegian food, and commiserate over not seeing my fellow student-friends until the start of school next year. Hopefully people turn up and have fun and I'm not left looking like a complete loser with no friends. The chickens are well, and Jesse is too.

That's about it.

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye

After having an empty blog for many, many months, I've finally been given the kick up the butt to actually use it. Facebook has been driving me crazy: why am I connecting with people over the Internet that I often don't like? I am sick to death of the racism, the knee-jerk bigotry, homophobia, fat shaming and of course, the misogyny. I get enough of that in my physical life, I seriously don't need it in my online one.
Adieu Facebook, you will not be missed.
